Return to part 1 My father's death

The Battle of the Hills of Gazrah

prolog

It had been two years since my father died. After the suppression of some revolts by unfaithful noblemen, it was Nagara who thirsted for the wealth of Crimonia.
Rel, the Empress Nagaras had been looking for an excuse for some time, which she finally found in the escalation of disputes over mining rights in the no-man's-land of the mountains in the south. We were not completely unprepared when we received the first reports of major troop movements behind the border, but we were only able to get part of our armed forces on the march in time to support the armies targeted by Rel in the east.

We couldn't allow her to split up our army and eat us in small bites. After a few skirmishes on the other side of the Lynth, our riders withdrew via the only passable place in this area, the ford near the hills of Gazrah, to bring the army of Rel, hanging at their heels, into a decisive battle there. Our armed force consisted of around 3,000 regular infantrymen, 800 men from the Tumuns militia, 1,000 foot soldiers from the Guard and 2,500 heavy and light riders. Opposite us were probably 6,000 foot soldiers and the superior force of about 5,000 horsemen.
