The story of Beowulf

This is the story of Beowulf, son of Ecgtheow. In the land of the Daen, the hall of King Hrotgar was haunted by a terrible monster - a man-eating giant named Grendel. He lived on the bottom of a nearby moor, and every night his hatred of the people drove him into the king's hall. Many brave warriors tried to kill him, but he slew them, for his strength was immense and his wickedness too.

Then in the distant Gautland the young warrior Beowulf heard of Grendel's misdeeds. He was considered the strongest person far and wide, in his handle was the strength of 30 men. He decided to rush to the aid of the Danes, and so he sailed with his men over the sound. Warmly greeted by Hrotgar, and so he kept watch in the hall the next night. When Grendel broke open the door, he grabbed the sleeping men with greedy eyes. He could kill and devour the first, but Beowulf and his men were ready and attacked him. However, no sword was able to pierce its thick skin. Beowulf grabbed his arm and held him as tightly as he could. Grendel felt fear and wanted to flee, but he could not break free. So he tore himself away by force

We don't want to report about the joy the next morning and the party with the praises of Beowulf, but in the evening everyone went to sleep in the hall, feeling completely safe. But in the darkness the gate burst, and a horrible figure fell upon the sleeping people. Though the Daen were quick on their feet, they could not prevent the death of one of their own. The giant woman - for that was the attacker - lost heart and fled, with Grendel's arm and the corpse as prey. The next morning Beowulf rode to the moor, the water of which was bloody red. He braced himself, took the sword Hrunting and got into the waves and went into hiding. It took half a day to reach the bottom. There the giantess was already waiting in her cave and lunged at him. After a long struggle, Beowulf finally managed to separate her head from her torso with a giant sword standing in the cave, which he could only swing thanks to his tremendous strength. He also cut off the head of Grendel, who was lying dead in the cave, as a token of his victory. Now he set about with his trophies to dive up through the foam-dark red water from the blood of the monsters. But on the half way to the surface a strange feeling came over him - it was as if an invisible giant hand was pulling on his body. He struggled to swim to the top, but to no avail. Now the water seemed to spin around him like in a huge vortex, faster and faster, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get out. Finally, after many hours of fighting, his strength left him and everything around him seemed to go black. The head of Grendel slipped from his fingers, and he sank faintly back into the depths ...

The next thing he saw was the plump face of an old man who was bent over him with a worried look. "Greetings, stranger," he said. "It has already been 5 days since fishermen brought you to my temple. They found you passed out on the beach. In your hand you held a strand of hair that was so huge that it couldn't have come from even a Cyclops. I was afraid that you wouldn't wake up, but you just got excited. " "Where am I?" asked Beowulf. "This country is called Tibia and my name is Quentin". Beowulf wondered where Tibia was and what the neighboring countries were called, but Quentin couldn't tell him that. So the hero went off to find out what had happened. Was there another giant who overpowered him and dragged him to a distant land? Was it some evil spell released by the blood of the monsters that brought him here? Or was it the will of the gods that he should fight an even greater evil here? Many questions to which he was looking for an answer.

This city and this country were completely alien, so very different from his homeland. The streets were full of rubbish - and corpses! They were lying around everywhere, some fresh, some decaying or just skeletons, just terrible! When Beowulf was still wondering what horror was raging here, a man in arms came closer. Looking at Beowulf, he just said " PK " and he was already stabbing at him with his sword. Totally surprised and still weakened, our warrior tries to defend himself, but a few moments later he sank to the ground. The next thing he saw was Quentin's face again, who had apparently brought him back to life.

Beowulf bitterly decided from now on to avoid the people of this country, who seemed to have no honor at all. And so from then on he lived in the wilderness, trained his weak body and hunted the abundant wolves. But he always came across corpses, and his anger grew great. One day he noticed a hole in the ground through which he descended. He found himself in a large cave, which he began to explore, always looking for a way to return home. After he had walked for a long time and had climbed and dismounted many times, he saw a light in a side cave. In front of a brick wall lay several horrible bodies that looked like bloated corpses and smelled horrible. But above them stood a fighter in shimmering armor who now looked at Beowulf. He shrugged his sword and carefully approached. Then said the stranger: "Hi! I am virgel! "Beowulf learned from him that the monsters were called ghouls. After a long conversation in which Virgel told him about his guild of good people, Beowulf gathered new hope He finally found advice here. So he agreed to join the guild that was called "Red Rose". And now he is roaming the country with his new allies, fighting monsters and evil people wherever he finds them. Many new friends he has won, also many enemies, but one thing still drives him: The search for a way back to his homeland, the distant Gautenland ...

(Note: I know that there was once a character named Grendel, but he has absolutely nothing to do with this story.)
